A Day in London
Wow!!! People read my blog, people commented... How cool to meet new people this way!

The Professor and I had a great trip. We flew to London and since I had never been there we spent one day. Continental Airlines has a bunch of private bathrooms with showers at Gatwick Airport, so we were even able to get clean after landing.

I live just outside Houston and get enough crowds and traffic at home, so I can take just so much of a city before I have to run to the countryside. We headed for Buckingham Palace & our timing was perfect.

Since there were about 5000 other people watching the changing of the guard, we wandered across the street to St. James Park. It is a little bit of heaven in the middle of the city.

Remember the apple trees in the Wizard of Oz -- the ones that threw the apples? -- well, here's one of them.

The flowers were incredible. Everywhere you looked, there were masses of them in every color of the rainbow.

I think I mentioned that I don't know what I'm doing?... I have just wasted 30 minutes trying to add another picture. I think I will stop here for today.

No Longer a Virgin -- My First Post
It's true, I have no idea what I'm doing, but my son Guppyman set this blog up for me so I figured I might as well use it. I hope to get a lot better at this as he teaches me how to do things like post pictures and link to other sites. Right now I am taking a break from the evil paperwork: I am a salesman (industrial equipment), like all salesmen I hate paperwork, and it is our year end, so there are many reports. Come on, people, you've seen the sales call reports, you've seen the orders, you know what I've done, so why do I have to tell you again!

The Professor & I just got back from a trip to Romania. We had some interesting experiences and I will write more about those (with pictures), but while we were there we learned about Hurricane Rita heading for Galveston. I was worried about my family, especially my 85 year old mother & one granddaughter whose parents are 1st responders. No, I wasn't worried -- I was frantic. It took me 10 hours to make a phone call home. I bought 3 phone cards, all guaranteed to work -- none did. I finally begged someone to make the call for me, said I'd pay anything -- luckily she didn't overcharge me but, believe me, I wouldn't have cared. Once I knew everyone was out of Houston & safe, I went back to enjoying myself. We tracked the storm through internet cafes. There is nothing quite like being on the internet in a 600 year old building. When those buildings were built it took all day to go 10 miles and now you can see what's going on on the other side of the world in real time. Mind-boggling, isn't it.
