Saturday Photo Hunt: Art
I like to bring home native art as souvenirs from my travels for a variety of reasons: it's usually small and light and easy to pack; I do some artsy-craftsy stuff myself, so I really appreciate the skill and effort that went into it; and, most of all, because I buy things at outdoor markets, I get to interact with the people. So here are a few:
Quilting from Hawaii
Weaving by the Shipibo tribe of Peru.
Molas from Panama.
On the left, a doll from Peru. In the middle, a doll from Africa (that still has a faint whiff of smoke), and on the right, a carving of African tribesmen. These may be my favorites because they are not sophisticated creations, just the product of imagination, effort and love. I love what is normally referred to as "great art", but in some ways I love native art even more.

i LOVE art from other ends of the earth! art can tell so many stories and serve so many different purposes within a culture!
Those Molas are really awesome!! great take on the theme!
I love the dolls!! [I have a very small collection of Hopi Kachina dolls] ---the intricate work is so interesting and appealing.
Happy Saturday M&M!!!
I love the variety! All very interesting pieces!
What we love the most is our 'Great Art'
You have a very interesting and varied collection :)
Happy Hunting!!
What a great collection. Thanks for sharing.
Those are great examples of art. :) What a wonderful collection you have from places all over the world. :)
What a neat collection! I love "folk art" every bit as much as 'the masters."
What a wide variety of art you have. All very pretty. We used to have a mola, but not sure where it went in our many Air Force moves. My husband & I met and married in Panama, while stationed there. Happy Saturday :)
That's a neat collection of photos. The dolls are really interesting!
all are very cool examples. I think it is cool that even in very poor countries they still appreciate the beauty of art and want to create it. That has always fascinated me.
Mine's up...lol I had to do it
